Paper-Towel Tube Rocket
1. Put a 5-6" piece of tape across top of tube. Repeat with a second 5-6" piece of tape across the first.

2. To strengthen the top of the tube, wrap a 6" piece of duct tape around the top as pictured.

3. On an index card draw a circle about 3"-3.5" across (you can use the mouth of a glass or a tupperware lid). Cut it out and then fold it in half. Cut halfway along the fold to the middle of the circle. Note: easter eggs also make great nose cones, allowing you to skip steps 3-4.

4. Get a 2-3" piece of masking tape ready. Slide the cut pieces over each other to form a cone shape, until the two edges meet in front and back. Take the 2-3" tape and tape both the outside and inside edge.

5. Pack the cone tightly with toilet paper or a paper towel. Take two 2-3" pieces of masking tape, press the nose cone down firmly onto the tube and tape the cone onto the tube. Repeat with 4-6 more pieces of tape around sides of cone.

6. Cut a 4"x6" index card into four 2"x3" cards. Fold each in half to make it 1.5"x2", then fold up 1/2" of each side. The fin should stick out 1" from the rocket, and be 2" long. Make a diagonal cut as pictured, and tape the diagonal and rear edge.

7. Carefully line up fin vertically on tube, then apply a 4" piece of tape to each 1/2" flap so that it is well secured to the tube. Repeat with two or three more fins spaced evenly around the rocket. Be sure to have the fins straight and carefully aligned!
